The owner of this extraordinary Mid-Century modern residence in the Cedar Hills neighborhood of Southwest Portland, was looking to create privacy and screening from the road with a stylish architectural element in the front yard landscape befitting the striking aesthetic of the home’s architecture.
Knowing the client was keen on the warm hues and textures of weathered steel, the design team at Pistils created the “Pond Ripple Fence,” featuring a succession of wider panels at the entryways, leading to narrower panels in the interior, to create an arresting visual.
As there were already large, anchor plantings — contorted Pines, Japanese maples and the like— established in the garden, the brief was to ‘thread the needle’ and elegantly weave this new architectural element into the landscape, in a way that made it feel like it had been there for years.
Once the original concept was approved by the client, the Pistils’ design team worked closely with our in-house install team to manifest something truly unique, modern and bold.
